This isn't the "most millennial song" by any stretch of the imagination, but when I try to imagine the 00s presented the way I see the 60s in movies, the needle-drop equivalent to "For What It's Worth" is MGMT's "Time to Pretend"

Blue morphos' wings have a big range of unrepresentable cyans. It's structural color, so pure frequencies, and all squarely in the blue green region screens can't show you. They look nothing like this.

I increasingly believe that most replies in big-room social spaces are really semantic tagging: "this post is that kind of thing!" "this post has a keyword I don't like!" Sometimes you get canned responses that people deliver in response to the tagging/sorting they've done. "I have a meme!"

My hottest LLM take is if you rely on an LLM being "facts and statistics" about the training corpus rather than the corpus to argue it's not copyright infringement this necessarily implies that the result of this process is itself not a copyrightable work and therefore all weights are public domain.

something sort of insane is that we have non-trivial evidence that posting is the top of all possible hierarchies of needs. some of the richest men in the world who could be on their mega-yachts choose to not only post, but orient their lives around posting related things

L'Inferno (Dante's Inferno) (Francesco Bertolini, 1911) is well known among silent film folks, but maybe less so among horror fans? It's wonderful and worth checking out. Many of the images are so wildly gruesome and inventive. They still have the power to disturb, even now over 100 years later.

only screenshotting cuz QTs are disabled (which is fine). you don't have to be nostalgic for this. a lot about this era sucked but most of the good parts of this era of the computer are still around, if you ditch mainstream big tech. this is how it feels to have a linux desktop in the 2020s.
