I was up in Merseyside at the weekend, and the new class 777s carry batteries, mainly because treasury refused to authorise a two mile extension of third rail electrification.

It's hard not to see similarities to the rhetoric drivers use against cyclists. They dehumanize us and say we deserve to get hit for daring to bike in the road. Cyclists are scolded for being "too mean" when we rightfully get mad about that and our friends being killed.

I want cis Americans to sit uncomfortably with the fact that most of these restrictions were ushered in through the liberal act of "just asking questions" about trans people.

She has literally spent the last 8 years lecturing everyone on how they should think, speak and act regarding trans people. She celebrated a court win against trans rights by posting a pic of herself huffing a cigar on the deck of her superyacht, and yet she talks about other people's entitlement???

This is the landscape that AI (specifically LLMs) has crash-landed into. A tool that has horrific impacts on learning outcomes, cognitive abilities, critical thinking, skills development (including writing), and mental health is being pushed on, and by, K-12 schools and colleges and universities.

When radioactivity was discovered, there was a rush to market for all sorts of radioactive consumer goods. There were water jugs made out of uranium glass, for example. I think about that a lot these days whenever I see AI products being marketed to consumers.

Just generally speaking, public attitudes to *known paodophilia* have arrived at a place that would’ve been unimaginable at the turn of the century. It feels weird to write it, but it’s become a forgivable transgression (depending on who does it) in the public eye.

They loved Farage when he was on the fringes - a loud mouthed provocateur driving UK politics to right. But now he's become too powerful, and there's a risk he could come to power. His mob-led populist politics could directly harm those who previously found him useful to deregulate the UK.

I see a lot of reasonably anti-Trump people angry at this, but at this point that requires being in a state of denial about how bad SCTOUS has gotten. Court packing is bad in the same way nobody wants their leg amputated, but it's the lesser evil when it's only way to save the patient from gangrene.

re Labour leadership - there's three years to the next general election, and the "controllable" that will have the biggest impact on Labour's fortunes will be how well (or badly) they do at running the country. So just go for the person you think will be best at running the country for three years.
