The first venture of Jeremy Brett's #SherlockHolmes into feature length as I hit Sign of Four, and even though this is ITV's preferred length for detective stories I'm not sure it works. Holmes is uninvolved in the first and last quarters of the story, and its not the best story any way.

I must once again trot out the revealing anecdote: Disney execs were shown beautiful scenery from a superhero movie. They wanted to know what technology was used. They had to be told that the cinematographer pointed a camera at scenery that existed and photographed it. 🤯 These are not smart people

I agree 100% with Steven Vickers that authors will be falsely accused of using AI in the coming years. In particular, authors like myself whose works were stolen to train AI systems are at risk. When we write in our own unique styles, AI trained on us will quite likely flag us as using AI.

Watched #OneBattleAfterAnother and I can see why it won all the Oscars, but not in a good way. It had its moments, don't get me wrong, but it had the air of a film that just assumed it would be good because of the names in the credits. It went very meh when I realised to good bit was a prologue.

I learned recently that he and Whitehouse were once offered the Avengers to revamp and given all the evidence (including that very Avengers-y Randall and Hopkirk he wrote) I'm very sad it didn't come to anything.

Watched another episode of the Higson's #JekyllAndHyde and things are still going well. Too well, in fact: I'm starting to remember where things went wrong. These opening episodes are a terrible pilot, because they set up a series that doesn't quite happen.

I'm not going to join the debate about whether RTD is right or wrong here, but I will say it sounds - to me - reminiscent of someone who's resigned from a job realising they now can't be fired.

Listening to that Dave Baby cassette and realising one of my cultural dividing lines is those who recognise Cliff Richard's massive contribution to early English rock and roll and those who just make stupid twat comments about him.

Last night I watched Nina Conti's #Sunlight - partly because Richard Herring made it sound amazing - and I thought it was great. Does that mean I'm part of Operation Epic Furry now? A low key but absolutely unique film that is basically a two-hand conversation between a man and a monkey.

Trump has achieved something incredible. He's managed to make the Iranian regime, look relatively sane, compared to himself. It's getting increasingly difficult to recognize the terrorists, when the US is acting like a terrorist regime, run by a lying conman.

New tour dates up including Stoke, Lincoln, Oxford, Redruth

I appreciate ambition but I still think the 'Invasion' and 'Moonbase' animated episodes are my favourites as they simply try to look as close to the original as they can, with added mean'n'moody shadows. (Of course in both cases there are existing episodes for reference.)

This is a very important point: it's like me staging Macbeth in a church hall and crediting Richard Burbage.

Started watching the #DoctorWho The Celestial Toymaker animation on the iPlayer. It's an interesting experiment, but falls between a lot of stools. You can tell the urge was to do something to liven up what is renowned as one of the slowest, dullest stories in all of Who, and it nearly works.
