More than one thing can be true. 1. Posting about your own book over and over again can be a problem. 2. Recently a friend of the last 15-years who at times (though not atm) I've been very close to and who still follows me on two out of three platforms... ...hadn't heard that I'd written a book.🤦‍♂️

I read advanced copies of both over the weekend. VERY different reading experiences, but both reminded me what a privilege it is to have author friends whose talent and passion take form pretty much every Tuesday. (New release day in the US.) These two launched today, so now you can read them, too!

There sure was a lot of "running unopposed" happening on my Iowa Dem primary ballot today. I voted for most of them. There is possibly one case where I'd prefer an open seat to the unopposed candidate, so I abstained in that race (rather than writing in someone silly.)

I still deal with anxiety and depression, and publishing def brings its own pressures, but this has also been one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had so far. I’ve always wanted to do meaningful work, and there's evidence that this matters - at least a little. More than one thing can be true.

Elizabeth is one of those people who, at least creatively, is capable of doing just about anything well. I've seen her work competently or better, and often MUCH better, in at least a dozen disciplines. Thank god she's not a "worder" or there'd be no use for me at all in this family. 😌😮‍💨

Social media tip: When you get trolled and some friendly digital citizen says something sarcastic, just miss the sarcasm. I had someone sarcastically wish me luck. I thanked them sincerely for their support and encouragement. I'm afraid that dude's head might have actualy exploded.

I'll say more about this soon, but when a storied shop like Kepler's Books decides you deserve shelf space, it might be time to stop thinking of yourself as "sort of an author." (Am I the only author who gets "starstuck" about certain bookstores? That can't just be me, right?)

It's way too early for me to be cocky about this, but early in my fledgling authorial career I was taught that, in terms of marketing your books, a modern author should do everything they can but they should temper their expectations pretty drastically about how much good their efforts will do. 🧵

Work emails out of context: As the revered prophet Miley Cyrus once said, "We can't stop, and we won't stop."

It's rare that the beating you took during your career makes you the best qualified to write a book about that field. During my 20 years as an artist, I was scoffed at, derided, scorned, made fun of, gossiped about, attacked, and ignored. That's an A+ resume for a book on creative persistence.

I use a scheduler for socials so I don't have to have thoughts or ideas on command. When I think of something, I just cruise over and drop it in. Mostly fine, but it can be weird when, for instance, I mention a mini-crisis I'm having at time of writing but not three days later at time of posting. 🤷‍♂️
