This morning the ABC-majority council voted to pursue a 0% increase to property taxes for next year. The city staff's report recommended 5-7% just to maintain services. Every non-ABC councillor opposed. A number of opposition call-in comments usually only seen for rezoning motions. Passed 6-4.

I'm less concerned with individual examples, VPD should not approve so much overtime they go over budget. If they do, the next budget should reflect that outcome. Simple as that. Going so far as advertising "countless opportunities" for OT in the recruitment flyers, it's practically gleeful.

Bligh has a decent amount of support from the province and feds (more than Sim or Allam at this point), which could help. But her 6 years being a supporter of Ken Sim, and getting elected under both the NPA and ABC banners, means it’ll be difficult to get support from local left-wing parties.

If we're going to be a country that prides ourselves on our healthcare system, our government should be part of the system. This is a bold push away from the neo-liberal privatization approach we've lived with for decades, and I love it. Kudos to this community.
