i don't trust the confidence that people have that: there will be no substantive difference between cornyn and paxton, even if their voting records will ultimately be similar, and that paxton is necessarily a better opponent for talarico. i just don't think it's good to flirt with terrible people.

and the thing is, none of these people love technology; they are largely uninterested in tech with real revolutionary potential, like desktop manufacturing. they're in love with delusions and fantasies and above all heroic narratives that validate their software-priesthood class position.

they have no relationship to anything real so they are all in on computer-as-wire-mother. they'll advocate for paving the earth to build data centers because they think that'll immanentize the eschaton. they'll actively replace everything in their lives with a dumb generative facsimile.

so much of tech now is just nerds engaging in delusional larping of their teenage sci-fi fantasies but twisted to flatter the primacy of software in their brains. "space data centers" perfectly encapsulates this, turning space into yet another locus for the one activity they care about (computer)

The Bailout Theory of Trump's "Slush Fund"
What happens if we view Trump's proposed $1.8 billion dollar "Anti-Weaponization Fund" as a bailout for the larger right wing media ecosystem?

The fact that the Broadway Six are now perfectly positioned to get paid out of Trump's J6 slush fund as actual, legitimate victims of DoJ "weaponization" is sort of the perfect bow on this.

The fact that the Harris campaign made their direct pitch of "these fuckers want to destroy our democracy, don't let them," Trump barely denied it, and it still flat out did not work has done a lot of hidden damage to the Democratic party and, more broadly, the American psyche

One of the interesting tangential aspects of Trump's visit to China is that he can't control the media output. Some of the photos are UNREAL. Had to check this carefully suspecting it was altered or AI gen, but I have found it on three known press outlets with credit to a global photo agency. 😱

Declining fertility is a Thing. It's not a moral crisis or something that a couple of hectoring state interventions can "fix." People across the world are having fewer children for reasons that make sense to them.

My contribution to the fertility decline discourse is to note that there has never, in the millions of years that hominids have existed on this planet, been a sustained global population boom like we've seen in the past 300ish years. Why in god's name would you think that growth is sustainable?

You cannot understand the American right's mental universe without realizing a constitutive trauma over the past ~40 years has been a growing fear of irrelevance and feelings of rejection as liberal culture "won" in mainstream media. It's hard for liberals and leftists to understand this mindset

Solidarity with dead people from the 19th century who thought empire was for arseholes and now get called Victorians
