It's just impossible to take Trump seriously anymore. From declaring he's going to spend two more terms in office to bragging about how good he is at identifying a squirrel on a dementia test. Nothing he says means anything at this point.

Listening to the clip, his tone of voice gives away that he's trying to tell a joke. But it's also wishful thinking. He knows he doesn't have that much time left, and everyone in the room probably knows it deep down too.

Trump is shitposting slop while his guests wait for him to show up. He's not waylaid in meetings or trying to solve some problem, he's just self-soothing by posting brainrot. Imagine the lack of dignity it takes to just sit there and wait for him to get offline.

The need to make order out of chaos is powerful.

Nobody needs to declare it was staged, or that it's a Reichstag Fire moment. It's not, and it hasn't been any of the other dozen times people have made those accusations.

"Trump keeps staging assassination attempts" is the same Infowars brainworm strain as "Obama keeps staging mass shootings." Different party, same paranoia.

The WHCD gunman went to Caltech, so it's inevitable that the "staged shooting" conspiracy theory and the "missing scientists" conspiracy theory are going to link up.

How cooked are we? We're so cooked that the first mention of the whcd shooting I saw was someone saying it was staged. I didn't even know what "it" was yet. Anyone else have that happen?

I think it's just really hard to accurately report on something like this as it's happening. Different sources tell you different things, and a lot of it's wrong. At the same time, social media driven scoops are more important than ever. It's a toxic combination.
