A lot of things Trump tries seem to be blatantly illegal. Half the stuff we're expecting in this speech is somewhere between illegal and insane. Also, there is some debate around at least two versions of a third term power grab. I do not totally rule it out.

Maybe it's because the sky is burning and everything is nuts but I can't help but wonder whether tonight's speech might be some type of attempted third term campaign launch

Something to how Union and organizer heavy the current wave if Progressive candidates are, I've been struck in the past by theeadership and candidates of opposition parties and 3rd parties worldwide being organizers and activists while in the US they're intellectual dissidents with light CVs.

I think a lot of that though is just overhang from the 70s era when labor unions and organized crime were much more tightly interwoven than they are today. It's an image that hasn't really updated with the times.

I once attended a political rally held in a Chicago union hall, and the speaker introduced it as "a site that has seen the launch of several national political careers... and more than one prison term, too."

This morning I was just talking to a first responder union friend about Platner and Sam. He didn't know Sam but he criticized Platner as "Morris Katz's idea of a working class person."
