Every time I watch Rebel Without a Cause I'm reminded that it's such a weirder film than it's popularly thought of. Dripping with existential dread and queer sensuality, it's part educational film in popular psychology, part nihilistic exploitation films, and part Sirkian melodrama. It's got it all!
