Nothing to add to this myself beyond the fact that it's terrible news and another severe blow to the landscape of gaming coverage and criticism. Games deserve better, readers deserve better, these writers definitely deserve better.

Games criticism owes so much to Garrett Martin. Quietly one of the most influential people in the space, a guy who was happy to publish anyone that had something interesting to say. A shame AV Club is shuttering its games coverage. End of an era, long live Paste Games

This reminds a lot of why 2023's Sing Sing was such an important film. We veie men who are incarcerated as unworthy of art and play, and programs like this one for video games and Sing Sing's RTA are vital. Such a wonderful piece and if you're moved by it I suggest you watch Sing Sing next.
