Look I'll be real some of my feelings on citation are from bad experiences. In my VERY early career (like just starting out) when I was submitting solo authored pieces to journals, rather than co-authored with established profs as I had been during my PhD, I got some desk rejects that felt REAL bad.

Yes! Sorry, please do not feel that I am saying citation is unimportant. It's vital even for non-academic work (the phrase "in conversation with the field" comes to mind). Like, it's important. But I think many cultural institutions, esp. the academy, put 90% of the weight on it! That's too much!

This is not me being backhanded, this is me asking a genuine question, since it's not a genre I play: extraction shooters are basically "you go in but if some other player snipes you or whatever you can lose everything you have dark souls-style" gameplay-wise, correct?
