Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication.

Thank you, President Kaguta Museveni, for a very constructive meeting, and esp. for #Uganda’s strong efforts to contain #Ebola. We agreed that regional cooperation is key to prevent further spread of the virus, as well as investment in preparedness and readiness, and strong community engagement.

I am in #Uganda, where the government has mounted a prompt and capable response to the outbreak of #Ebola. Screening at the borders helped detect cases arriving from neighbouring #DRC, and the country’s surveillance, testing and case management systems are doing steady work. 1/3

I am one of the 2.5B people who need assistive products. Without my glasses, I miss details that most people take for granted. I'm fortunate to have access to regular eye care & to be able to replace my glasses when needed. But for millions of people, the assistive technology is simply out of reach.

Our measure of success is not whether we stop this #Ebola outbreak. We will. The #DRC govt has extensive experience with Ebola, & has stopped 16 previous outbreaks. It’s just a matter of how quickly we can do it. The real measure of success is what we do to prevent the 18th outbreak, & the 19th.

Attacks on health in #Lebanon continue to take lives and deprive people of access to health care. @who.int reiterates its call for the protection of health care, health workers, patients and medical facilities in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Appreciated the opportunity provided by #DRC Prime Minister Judith Suminwa to brief the diplomatic corps in Kinshasa on the response to the #Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus.

Ending the #Ebola outbreak in #DRC’s Ituri will depend on the role of local leaders who best know their communities, the challenges & the solutions that can be taken in such a complex context. I met with and listen to community leaders from faith, women’s, youth, business & other sectors in Bunia.

Even without vaccines or specific therapeutics, people can survive #Ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus if they receive timely healthcare. @who.int & partners are supporting the establishment of Ebola treatment centres in #DRC. Yesterday, I witnessed the opening of one such centre in Bunia.

At least 40 million children aged 13-15 are using tobacco products, and 15 million children are using e-cigarettes, as tobacco and nicotine industries continue to drive addiction. World #NoTobacco Day is a reminder of the harms of tobacco in all its forms. @who.int calls on govts to act decisively!

Proud to take in today’s opening of a 42-bed #Ebola treatment center in Bunia, #DRC. Previously a new pediatric building of the Centre Évangélique Médical entrusted it to @who.int to convert into a facility to provide care to people who have contracted Bundibugyo virus causing the Ebola disease.

Up in the air with the #UNHAS pilots of the Wings of the #Ebola Response, flying us to and from Bunia, the epicentre of the outbreak. They carried our mission on their wings. Heartfelt thanks for their dedication.

#Hantavirus: the number of cases reported to @who.int so far remains 13, incl. 3 deaths. No new deaths have been reported since 2 May. We remain in close contact with all govts where passengers & crew are being quarantined or receiving care in isolation. The situation remains stable at this time.

In partnership with Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale, we are scaling up #Ebola diagnostic capacities in the #DRC, and strengthening the laboratory network to deliver real-time data, rapidly identify confirmed cases, save their lives and swiftly contain the outbreak.

Last night @who.int office in Kyiv was hit by debris from one of many strikes in the city, damaging windows on the 3rd floor. No one got injured. Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported so far from the attacks on civilian infrastructure over night. Attacks on health and civilians MUST STOP

#WHA79 delegates met against a backdrop of outbreaks, conflict, division, uncertainty and constrained resources. That is the point of multilateralism: not to pretend the difficulties are not there, but to address them together. That is not automatic. It is a choice. I thank you for that choice.

Just received the last message from captain Jan Dobrogowski, who is finally leaving the MV Hondius cruise ship today. He remains without #hantavirus symptoms until today. So far, 12 cases in total have been reported to @who.int, and three deaths. No deaths have been reported since May 2.

#Uganda has today reported 3 new confirmed cases of #Ebola, incl. a Ugandan health worker, a driver and a Congolese national who travelled from Ituri, #DRC, for medical care. This brings the total number of people who have been tested positive for Ebola in Uganda to 5.

As the #Ebola outbreak in the #DRC is spreading rapidly, @who.int is now revising our risk assessment to very high at the national level, high at the regional level, and low at the global level.

The #Ebola situation in the #DRC is deeply worrisome. So far, 82 cases have been confirmed, with seven confirmed deaths. But we know the epidemic in the DRC is much larger. There are now almost 750 suspected cases and 177 suspected deaths.

The #Ebola response in the #DRC and #Uganda needs all hands on deck. Yesterday, I convened the principals of organizations and institutions that are part of @who.int Interim Medical Countermeasures Network.
