I’ve never skipped reading a prologue, but my actual opinion is that a huge proportion of them are redundant and should have been cut

My favourite thing about the screenshotted post is that the Gunn Superman movie is all about Clark refusing to be a coloniser the way his parents wanted

The Larry Sanders Show. Without Larry Sanders there’s no 30 Rock, no The Office or Extras, no The Thick of It or Veep or Curb Your Enthusiasm, I could go on at great length,

RIP Jim Wheelock, a good cartoonist and a great guy. He used to be found every year propping up the bar at various UK conventions and at AngoulĂŞme, where half the passers-by would think he was George R. R. Martin. Here he is with the man himself, in happier times

Sam Kieth did not bend for comics. Comics bent to him. I won't call his manner of drawing merely a style because that implies some level of artifice. Maybe not since Kirby had mainstream comics seen an artist with less filter between his imagination and the printed page.

So I read this pilot the other night and it really is incredibly bad. Which is baffling, because Nora and Lilla Zuckerman wrote the good season of Poker Face, and after they left that show to do Buffy the season without them wasn’t nearly as good. So what went wrong?

There have been recent years where I've seen almost none of the top movies and didn't know anyone with strong opinions on which one should win Best Film, so this was a good Oscars. But Benicio was robbed

I feel like a good and socially useful writing prompt for sf writers would be to turn out a bunch of plausible scenarios where a new technology automates 40% of jobs and the result isn’t just "40% of people are unemployed forever; the hunger games"

The Canton Express in Glasgow. Walking distance from my flat, open until 5am most nights, huge amount of amazing food for not much money. I lived off their chicken in black bean sauce and crispy pork with gravy for years. Heartbroken when I went there one night and it had closed with no warning

I can never quite fully invest in the sexy vampire. Things get weird when you think too deeply about a cold undead phallus that, at best, I imagine, feels like being fucked by Vicks vapo rub

The Second-Order Streisand Effect is a social phenomenon where if a party makes an effort to censor information, discussion and news about the censorship paradoxically leads to an increased awareness of Barbara Streisand, a musician whom most "Zoomers" would probably have otherwise never heard of

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing. All from his movies.

Looking for some help locating a holy grail. In 1989, The Sunday Times ran a promotion called "The Great Ghost Hunt". An illustrated poster of famous British hauntings came free with the paper, and in the following weeks they published quiz questions relating to the various spooky happenings. (1/X)

Reading a book from the 1970s where the main character has an extremely medically inaccurate stroke. I’d write to the author to complain but sadly he died in 1994 (not of a stroke)
