1. Change all her political opinions. 2. Get therapy, decide to not be an arsehole anymore, really put the work in. 3. Do the actual work that politicians do and accept the criticism that comes with it rather than being a bleedin' hurler on the ditch.

I agree with this. There are a number of things about the current labour party which I think best make sense as a kind of fanatically committed centre right extremism. Odd to say because it's been tied up with a lot of dishonesty, but in a sense it's even principled...

As I said the other day, the main retort of political science professors to people who identify Labour's trajectory as deliberately suicidal is, "Political parties don't like to lose elections," but I really think those people severely underestimate the zealotry that underpins the McSweeney project.

If the only lesson that politicians learn from the Very Expensive Bike Shed Story is "don't build any bike sheds ever", then that's a disaster. This is significantly lower in planned cost, and the tender hasn't even been awarded yet.

You will note how some proscribed groups are violently suppressed by the state with definitions broad enough to encompass pensioners and disabled people holding signs, while other proscribed groups are apparently free to operate in the open and ‘have a word with themselves’ over assaulting women.

imagine right, you've had to get past the 28k/38k minimum income requirement for a spouse visa, your visa conditions are *work is not a requirement of entry*, you'll pay about 14 grand over 5 years minimum across 3 visas, and you have to also pick up dog poo from the local field or you have to leave

Not sure day one of the latest ID card rollout went very well at all, not least because the government couldn’t answer the absolute core question about why they’re being introduced. The case is that digital ID will be required for anyone to get work. The problem is ID is already mandatory. 🧵

I think of digital ID cards as akin to the voter ID laws passed by the Tories. It fuels a lie that there are a lot of illegal immigrants unfairly working or claiming benefits, and if only we had the instrument we could find them and stop them. Not true!

It winds up being cancelled after 15 years & £4.5 billion.
