I think the combination of the dominance by the BBC of news, together with the levels of trust it enjoys, gives it a degree of influence which is unhealthy for it and for democracy. And it uses them to perpetuate a status quo-ism which is demonstrably failing the nation.

Personally I'd be pleased to see BBC News disappear entirely. To argue, as many do, that British politics or our news environment would be so much worse without the BBC you have to explain why British politics and news environment is so very bad with the BBC.

I was once given a list of bigots at the BBC. About 20-30 of them in senior positions who had openly supported bigotry. Not a single one, to my knowledge, ever faced any consequence or real pushback. Neither on their actions or their clearly successful attempts to sway the agenda more bigoted.

there have been several studies over decades showing that bbc news exhibits a bias towards the right (while non-news programming appears to show a bias to soft-left views, whatever that means in the context of non-news programming). it’s quite easy to just look this stuff up.
