Benedict Evans asks if frontier AI models are destined to be the next high-margin tech monopolies, or the next low-margin commodity infrastructure like mobile networks? He argues that current dynamics point toward the latter, as models are trending towards interchangeability.

the implications for SaaS businesses, IMO, depend on how much their value is just software versus how much is offloading liability, operations, process, compliance, etc. put more simply, if your only moat is software, that's a problem. IME, however, that's not most SaaS businesses.

The Wankel engine is an elegant design. I appreciate the adoption comparison but challenges were different. The similarities are in the long term outcomes. The Wankel IS still used today, for use cases that require its technical advantages. Likewise, AI will be useful, just not for everything.

Happy birthday America! The United States was started 250 years ago today, but it was not finished 250 years ago today. Our story is incomplete. Our Constitution is based on ideas from the French enlightenment. But we added racism to their ideas, and corrupted it. We're still fixing that mistake.
