Several sunny days in a row we're lovely. Today us cloudy and more snow expected. Cold weekend ahead. Instacart order placed, laundry sorted, medical appts made, Misfits Market order started, dinner planned. Time to take a break and read, puzzle, or knit with a nice cup of tea.

Today a friend and I took our SOs on a "playdate" at a nearby senior center that has a pool table. We're hoping the SOs will want to shoot pool again and will schedule future games without our assistance - it seems that men have a hard time making friends and doing things together.

36° today, no wind, bright sunshine. I needed this so much!

Not really surprised Phil the Groundhog saw his shadow this morning, we in NH are already expecting up to 12 more weeks of winter.

More than $400,000 raised for immigration support from sales of the Melt The Ice hat, and checks for $250,000 have been delivered! Wasn't happy with my 1st attempt, so I pulled out this "boy, that's really red" yarn (to quote SO) and started over. It is red, and delightful to knit. 🧶

The deep lore says that if your first words of a new month are "RABBIT RABBIT RABBIT," good luck will follow you all month long. Let's all do it, because we need all the luck we can get.

Moderately productive day; didn't leave the house at all. Contractor came by and we chose a stain color for the new handrails. Did 1 load of laundry. Knitted. Read. Went through stash and found red yarn. Cooked dinner and hung out with my honey. It's been a good day.

17° now, so hubby decided to go shopping for cat treats, apples, and no idea what else at the little store. I put the laundry in the dryer, got a shawl to fight the chill, made a cup of ea, and went through my yarn stash in search of solid red yarn. Found a few skeins, I'm sure there are more!

Just got an update email from PURL magazine, regarding the kickstarter done last year. The first issue is set, remaining submissions are due tomorrow, and it should be available in print sometime in August! More info available on Facebook and Instagram. The next 3 issues are in various stages.

The very cold weather and enforced hunkering down has been getting to me - it's been like this for most of 6 weeks now. Today I decided to counter it with a "CA Girl" brunch of a multi grain bagel with avocado and Penzey's Pico Fruta seasoning, topped with salmon. Still cold, but well fed!

Housekeepers finally left. Their vacuum cleaner needs maintenance - sounds like it has emphysema and doesn't work asquickly and efficiently as it should.

Gave myself a pep talk today to get me to go to my knitting group. It was so cold and the windchill was miserable and it was icy and I really just wanted to stay home and knit. Glad I went! Almost everyone was knitting a Melt The Ice hat, and 2 more people bought the pattern. Good times!

Skipped Knitwits this morning- it was 3° and I refuse to go out until the temp is at least double digits! Stayed home, watched contractor find studs under the plaster and lath, started sautéed red cabbage for dinner, organized and put away a tub of fabric. Drinking tea and knitting are next.

Just read that sales of the Melt The Ice hat pattern have generated $250,000 so far to be donated to the identified immigration assistance groups. That's in addition to the many hats being donated as well.

Ordered pizza and salads for dinner due to lack of motivation on my part. Also ordered SOs favorite no sugar added cookies from British Foods in Boston, ordered others from Amazon (I know...), started knitting a Melt The Ice hat, switched needles on a cabled cowl. Murder She Wrote and puzzles now.

Got out today for mah jongg; roads were relatively clear thanks to overnight plowing, salting, and sanding. Dude plowed again about 10 pm, came and sanded the driveway and parking area before noon. Coming back with his front loader to move some of the 6' piles of snow further into the yard....

Today, January 27, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We remember and honor as many as 12 million souls who perished.

Snow plow dude did our driveway at 10 pm, which seems a bit early. It's still snowing, predicted to continue for 24 hours. Looked like at least a foot of new snow, maybe it's easier to plow multiple times.

Tried to watch the Patriots - Broncos game but my sister called to chat for the first time in years - 10 maybe - and chat she did. I got in about 100 words in 90 minutes, and missed much of the game. I do love a good game on the frozen tundra and wish I'd seen more of this one.

Still snowing. Watching football. SOs meds organized for the week. Ground turkey stuffed red bell peppers in the fridge, ready to pop in the oven at halftime or a little later. Beef stew in the crockpot for tomorrow's dinner. Might make chocolate pudding for dessert. Now it's time to knit and relax.

4° and snowing tiny, icy, unphotogenic flakes. So quiet, even the snowplow aren't out yet.

If the weather forecast is accurate, current -3° should be the coldest temperature for the coming week. SO says it has to get warmer for it to snow, which seems oxymoronic, but he knows more about snow than I do. Snow expected to start about 11 am tomorrow.

Serious escapism tonight - watching "King Kong vs Godzilla" on Svengoolie. Gotta admit bad 50s and 60s science fiction is one of my guilty pleasures.

Sunny 🌞 day here, but it's deceiving. -1, feels like -15 right now, at 9 am. Heading up to 8° later. Electrician is here, finishing installation of the snow and ice melt system on the metal roof section. He says he doesn't notice the cold, but I don't believe a word of that!

We're as ready as we can be for the snow and frigid temps the next few days. Forecast is 16 - 22" of snow, wind chills as low as -45°, high actual temps of 8°. Our fuel oil and propane were topped off, veggies and food stocked, cars fueled up. I have projects to work on, books to read. Bring it!

My amaryllis bulbs must be late bloomers! First blooms are opening now, about 6 weeks later than expected. Cheerfulness is appreciated anytime.

Sterno is what I was thinking of - it keeps food safely at hot serving temps but I don't know if it gets hot enough to cook although it will get hot enough to boil water. I keep a pack of these in my emergency supplies for both emergencies and for making fondue 🫕.

Starting laundry load 3; 1 and 2 are folded and 1 is put away. 3 more to go, doubt those will be done today because I have every intention of making tea and reading my book before starting dinner. Tomorrow is another day after all.

SO came upstairs this evening to let me know he'd made dinner because I was watching football, and offered to bring mine upstairs if I wanted. I went downstairs and we had a lovely Cabot mac and cheese dinner together. We watched the snow fall for a bit - I love the quiet moments together.

Well, damn. Not a good football weekend for my preferred teams. Some less-than-professional officiating and teams that sorta lost the plot made it frustrating.

Put on my Baja Sunrise Shawl last week and realized that I never wove in the ends after blocking! Watching the Texans - Patriots play in the snow seemed like a good time to remedy that oversight, so here's the finished and ready to wear shawl.

Lots of disappointing football 🏈 today. Sure hope tomorrow is better for my preferred teams! Bills were pretty good, Niners just didn't even show up.

Meatballs in the oven and it's time for lunch. Cheese toast (Cabot sharp cheddar, horseradish sauce on Dave's Killer bread) and this lovely apple - don't remember the variety - that I've only gotten from Misfits Market. It's sweet and very apple-y tasting.

Last night was strange. Finally got back to sleep about 4, slept soundly until 7. Got up to read then and dozed with the cat for a bit longer. Nice to have no plans or obligations. Laundry and dinner prep will be done soon so I can watch football without guilt this afternoon and evening.

It's a wearing fleece-lined leggings, sweatshirt, and fleece-lined socks while I drink tea and sit by the fire kind of day. Snow started at midnight, predicted for all day - light, icy, and lots of it. Glad I have nowhere to go today!

Lovely cuddle and nap with GingerSnap until 12:30, but now I'm wide awake. No plans for tomorrow other than watching it snow all day, but it would be nice to sleep. Guess I'll work a crossword- that usually puts me out in a few minutes.

Managed to sleep fairly well last night, surprisingly. OTOH my knees are still a bit sore this morning, but better than yesterday. GingerSnap snuggled with me for almost 3 hours, which was lovely.

Driving to the orthopedist today it was astonishing how little snow is left due to the mid-40s temps we've been having. It's not going to last - snow is predicted for the weekend and then high temps in the teens for a bit. It looks like March; climate change or just strange weather?

Busy couple of days for us. Met with our contractor (he's semi-retired) about 6 or 6 small projects. SO had his next-to-last PT appt. Won at mah jongg! Gave a fellow Knitwit 2 skeins of an old Kureyon colorway and 2 skeins of not so old Silk Garden for a hat she likes knitting. Got hyaluronic gel..
