We recorded a podcast episode about the research on gender and math ability yesterday. I did so much research for it I felt overwhelmed trying to summarize it. These issues and discriminatory experiences are too massive -- like they destabilize you with their gravity.

A lot of people are posting things about how bad it is to rely on AI for lit reviews but also as a society we have made it extremely difficult for non-scholars to access bodies of literature!! Of course people want this!

I'm really having a battle with my relationship to academics & academic research these days. Yeah, I'll always follow a ton of meta science and methods stuff, because I want to do what I can to create the highest quality work. But the feeling of total lack of regard for any applied context is tough.

I think this would be a huge cultural win. Some things are so difficult to measure or so mired in dysfunction that people are left feeling very betrayed because their rich observation of their own life and careers feels like it has no weight. Qual can have serious weight!!

This is why I'm paying so much attention to the people with deep domain knowledge but who don't know what they don't know in terms of construction code, let's say, and the implicit guardrails & checks they are able to create for themselves WITH that domain knowledge

I always wonder about queerness in these contexts. Can report from my own life that sexual harassment*in the context of the corrective violence directed at queer women, hits hard. And I suspect can be categorically different than cis straight women's experiences, while there's much solidarity ofc.
