If you read my thread, make sure to read the retracted paper’s last author’s response. As I highlighted on pubpeer & my thread, authors have been very responsive, transparent & collegial all the way through. I was surprised myself seeing a retraction as I had asked for a correction.

Closing Rreflection. This June, I chaired #SIPS2025 in Budapest 🇭🇺, celebrating 10y of @improvingpsych.org. It was a vibrant & inspiring meeting. We hosted workshops, hackathons, lightning talks, & unconferences on topics from AI & theory building to radical transparency, detecting data fabrication.

Turns out that raising virtually insane expectations literally has a price. “Compass Pathways’ stock has crashed by nearly 50% despite the company announcing its Phase III trial of psilocybin had met its primary endpoint [..] investors seem unconvinced by the impact of the therapy in the study.”

Important letter “to the American people”, but written in language proving tools (eg for blogging) consider “complex” for folks with “12th grade to early college reading level”. Tons of jargon, complex compound sentences w multiple clauses. Let’s please write open letters most people can read.

A long while ago, w/ @yuqingc.bsky.social @psforscher.bsky.social @eikofried.bsky.social I registered a meta-research to study how socio-economic status (SES) was measured in cognitive neuroscience (osf.io/hwtxq) & we posted some very interesting (or alarming?) figure on X.

It's becoming increasingly clear that many traditional publishers are at odds with the norms & values of the scientific community. Researchers usually want to make their research widely available and usable; Wiley here is concerned about maintaining the ability to slap on a more restrictive license.

Was so excited about Daggerheart as a new narrative RPG, but combat turned into DND 3.5, unfortunately. Multiple hit point bars, evasion & AC, damage is taken in 3 types (minor, major, severe) which depends on the thresholds your AC gives you, but armors can also be slotted to moderate that etc.
