My master thesis file name on my old university's thesis archive site still makes me chuckle.

This is an excellent point that generalizes. Researchers often defend suboptimal practices by referring to future studies with better designs. But: Why would anybody run those studies when you can just throw a bunch of variables into a regression and make sweeping "preliminary" claims?

This is really nice. But at the same time it is sad that a separate journal for replications is needed. Replications are not a different kind of thing but instead a foundational aspect of normal run of the mill science biz. We should not reinforce the idea that they should be treated differently.

i looked at the methodology for this and it is a. sex addiction counseling group in texas did a surveymonkey and extrapolated the results to the entire us population which is the sort of research design that earns you an ff on an intro methods class (the extra f is for extra effort), and b. p-hacked

We already know that lagged effects in CLPMs are likely to be upwardly biased, but just how easy is it to find significant effects? Way too easy. I tested CLPMS in 100 randomly selected pairs of correlated variables and found significant effects in 98 of them. New preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...

Science is grounded in observation. Measurement is a tool for observation. Measurements should be evaluated for validity and reliability/uncertainty. Scientists who use measurements without understanding their properties are not really scientists at all.
