On the street, it's got a dozen names. Some call 'em White Devils. Simple, classic. Some cats call 'em The Levelers, 'cause they take you from a 10 on the pain scale down to a zero. Smooths you right out. You call it Tylenol. I call it death.

One of the main goals of my non-fiction, criticism and cultural commentary is to contribute to eradicating the idea that storytelling is just entertainment. Entertainment is part of what storytelling does, and that's great. But, if we consider it's history, it's also something we clearly need.

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing the cost to consumers, and 3) the repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.

All the dire implications notwithstanding it is hilarious how evil this technology is. Billions of dollars spent on this greasy lying stupid thing that was literally built to replace people, and everyone that uses it gets weaker, lazier, dumber, and sadder for having done so. Well done all around.

President Trump has issued an executive order seeking to block all federal funding to NPR. This is the latest in a series of threats to media organizations across the country. Whatever changes this action brings, NPR’s commitment to reporting the news – without fear or favor – will never change.

Okay I need 2 say something. I’ve been online long enough to see a lot of discourse cycles about anti-intellectualism like the one sparked by this post. I want 2 highlight an aspect of these debates that I find to be frustratingly under-discussed: the rhetorical position of children’s literature. 1/
