Taken together with impoundments, this would break everything. The president is claiming the power to not spend money he doesn't want to and now also to spend money where it's not allowed. And SCOTUS might say no one has standing to stop him. That would make him an appropriations king.

Declassified: Fragments of a graphic cable about 2002 circa torture in a CIA black site. Alarmed co-workers reported it, triggering investigations that allowed critics of the program to cast it as out of control, and eventually contributed to its being shut down.

There is something that is just so deeply fucked about the NY dept of addiction services (OASAS) running ads about giving empathy to those with addiction and treating them with humanity and understanding... When the ads are all 100% gen AI.

economic arguments mostly don’t really hold water or are at least more complicated than portrayed: you can’t fund universal healthcare just by taxing them for example. but if you don’t think political case for not allowing the existence of that kind of person hasn’t gotten stronger idk what to say

I got kinda jokerfied when one of the big name public health COVID models started predicting increasingly drastic declines in infections in the near future as the number of infections skyrocketed. Under the hood, the model assumed symmetry, so steeper increase meant steeper decline.

Let me be clear I am not pro-LLM. That’s not what this is. “Transformative” is not a term of endearment. My expectation is that the net impact of LLMs will be extraordinarily negative. And that’s why we should take them seriously.

I have no patience for this. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time retailed for $59.95 in November, 1998. That's $117.27 today. You're dramatically underpaying for games right now. In fact, AAA studios are killing themselves with big bet live-service disasters and microtransactions to cover costs.

But that's adjacent to my point which is that... your human assistant is able to do work on your behalf because they're dealing with humans and there aren't loads of them. These tech folk imagine they have an AI but it will be able to deal with humans? And it's like, no they won't pick up the phone

The thing about "agentic" AIs is that nobody is thinking of the consequences downstream here. Why would your guests turn up, since they'll be getting loads of random spam? How does the bowling alley handle loads of automated requests? Who do you complain to if the cake is wrong?

The bowling alley installs an AI to deal with the requests. But as with the agent, it won't be their own custom one but some brokered service. Then how are bids ranked? Money changing hands in all directions, ofc. Venues bid for placements. Agent-users pre-load agents with $$ and set it to snipe.

given that ANDOR avoids so much typical star wars bullshit, it's wild to remember that ROGUE ONE is about some EXTREMELY typical star wars bullshit (a fun bit of worldbuilding from the OT becomes an overdetermined plot point entangled in the protagonist's relationship w/their estranged father)

1. LLMs tend to trend towards progressive, center-left politics 2. Since Elon is so anti-woke, people laugh and cheer at Grok "rebelling" against Elon 3. Grok's "rebellions" then become training data and sources found in searching 4. "rebellous Grok" is then reinforced as a personality

I cannot emphasize this enough: Please do not use AI tools as therapy. Not only is it not a good replacement for actual therapy, but your chat logs could be shared with the government, and I don't think you need a reminder that especially right now in the US, that could put you in danger.

Big Tech wants you to share your private thoughts with chatbots — while backing a government with contempt for privacy.
