I've overhauled my puzzle level generation so a level is now "grown" like cell tissue in a triangle tessellation. New elements can be inserted anywhere, and the whole level deforms to make room. This makes it easier to control topology and create paths that loops around areas. #ProcGen #GameDev

A bit of Sunday fun. My smooth transitions from graph to world didn't work as well once the world had elevation, because the positions of things would no longer line up. I've fixed that by scaling* the world up vertically as part of the transition. *Actually messing with the camera matrix. #GameDev

Whenever I use @desmos.com I find myself really wishing it had a mode that allowed multi-character variable names. Yes, it would make it impossible to multiply without a multiply sign, but I would gladly make that trade. I can't remember the meaning of 6+ arbitrary letters in my head simultaneously!

Recently finished Wheel World. I don't normally play racing games but I loved breezing around on my bike in the little open world of this game, popping into races, enjoying the scenery while virtually feeling the wind in my hair. While researching maps where scrolling is a side effect of cursor movement, I noticed that the Breath of the Wild map has an odd dual behavior. If you scroll from a stand-still, the cursor remains dead-center in the screen. But if you zoom *while* moving, the scrolling goes into a trailing mode!

Do I know anyone with experience combining @freya.bsky.social’s Shapes with uGUI UI? The Shapes docs describe how to make shapes show up in UI, but have anyone made a neat/performant “binding” for making e.g. Shapes rectangles match the rectangle of a RectTransform?

I've implemented "memory capture" for my procedural game about exploring and connecting clues. It's like taking photos of eligible objects, with automatic framing. It reduces the need for (manual) memorization. For now, it's just the last memory; later a menu with all the photos. #GameDev #IndieDev

I had no idea William Chyr (of Manifold Garden) was working on a VR game, and a room-scale one (where you move around on your own feet) at that. Fans of Eye of the Temple may want to keep an eye on it.

So, I made a hair shader that doesn't require any specially made meshes or textures. Initially I made this work by sampling many normal directions rotated around the hair strand direction, but I eventually got an approximation working that doesn't rely on multi-sampling. github.com/runevision/H...

I made a fix for Shadertoy Exporter to help out @runevision.bsky.social, here's the repo: github.com/larathedev/s... I couldn't make builds for MacOS and Linux as I don't have the hardware, but if anyone is experienced with those platforms and knows how to build for them, let me know.

BY THE WAY If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2. There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security. Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation." TURN IT OFF.

I found some characters on the Asset Store and tried changing the hair material to use my shader. Luckily they all already had hair aligned vertically in the UV map, although not 100% for wavy/curly hair, which compromises my shader slightly.

I had an impulse to see if I could make a basic hair shader that doesn't require any specially made meshes or textures. Came up with this modification of the Unity Standard shader. The shapes below are just standard Unity spheres and capsules and only a simple normal map is used; no other textures.

Efforts currently on hold since the tool I've been using to export fixed framerate Shadertoy videos (github.com/KoltesDigita...) is not working, due to changes at the Shadertoy site. I don't know if it's caused by the Cloudflare integration or the current unavailability of the official APIs. :(
