I accidentally made a horror game! NaNs happen randomnly when looking at large depth differences. Due to spatial-temporal denoising they spread, and they spread faster with lots of camera movement. The only way to escape is to quickly find an uninfected part of the screen and zoom in.

I've been working with Spherical Gaussians recently as a representation for irradiance in realtime raytracing. Ended up deriving quite a few new approximations relating to SGs and diffuse lighting. Ended up with something both cheap and accurate. Check it out: www.shadertoy.com/view/WX3fRB

Finally getting back to posting about my cozy building game Island Architect. I've made it so that you now select if you want buildings to have roof tiles or flat roofs. Makes walls with roof files and small pyramid shaped buildings possible, and feels better overall!

I've figured out a new trick for using AI to solve complex problems. I call it frustration coding. Here's how it works: When stuck procrastinating , I ask an AI for help. When it inevitable fails I get annoyed and motivated to solve it myself instead. Works every time!

Dormers, chimneys and little spires with weather vanes get added automatically when building roofs. E.g., spires are added when all roofs meet in one point, dormers when you build a wall extending partially up a roof. Looking forward to adding lots of little details like this!

Got a bit frustrated with not quite being able to build houses how I wanted in my cozy town building game, so I reworked the grid and tools. You can now much directly manipulate the grid and it feels a lot better now! Also updated the roof tile look a bit.

Just got a first version of roof tiles generation working for my cozy town building game! There were a lot of details to solve to make it work with all the irregular roof shapes possible in the game! Next step is to make the tiles a bit more detailed. Right now they are simply drawn as cylinders.

Time to tackle the look of roofs in my cozy town building game! I'm working towards placing roof tiles. The look I'm going for is mostly regular, but following the shape of the roofs. Left to do is handling the edges and corners of roofs, and of course drawing the tiles themselves!

Has anyone got any examples of Body Centred Cubic lattices (explanation below) being used in computer graphics instead of regular 3d-grids ? Doesn't add that much complexity but has a few benefits: - For linear interpolation, you need 4 neighbours, not 8 - Shapes of cells are more spherical

I'm playing around with the idea of reusing visibility information from the screen space ambient occlusion pass for getting contact shadows for the directional light. Not sure it's worth the complexity, just tracing a screen space ray might be better though. Some (quite technical) details below:

The building grid in my cozy town building game now adapts as you are building to align with existing buildings. Makes it a lot easier to build larger buildings. It also adapts to the terrain and you still get slightly curved buildings. Also only showing the grid where the mouse is now.

You can now add windows and doors in my cozy town building game. It automatically selects between windows and doors depending on how tall the opening is and if it is close to ground or a floor. #gamedev #indiegame #cozygames

Working on a new version of the logic for determining where roofs go for my game. The idea is that the player places walls and floors and then roofs are automatically places based on that. The method is very similar to wave function collapse, but very constrained. #procedural #indiegame #gamedev

Thought I'd share a bit about the terrain editing in my little island town building game, since I haven't here. The terrain is fully editable and supports both smooth surfaces and caves and arches. It automatically makes rocks or grass depending on its shape. #indiegame #gamedev #procedural
