A fietsstraat is a Dutch street design where bicycles have priority, and cars are considered “guests.” The layout encourages safe, calm traffic by giving bikes the main position on the road, usually with red asphalt and clear signage.

It's been 25 years since One-Big-Ottawa was imposed on us. The world has finally taken note: this thing doesn't really work for urban or rural residents. I wrote about why and what's next.

The inevitable denouement of car culture: lonely guys talking to an AI woman as they sit in soul-crushing traffic on their way to a desk job behind the wheel of a vehicle they thought would make them cool and could survive the apocalypse.

While I love the O-Train, I think it's fair to say that its construction and implementation has been a hot mess, so I don't hate the idea of the city offloading its future expansion and operation to someone else. Unfortunately, the someone else is Metrolinx.

I wish bsky had a filter for "only the nice stuff." I don't want to turn a blind eye to the problems of the world, but sometimes I do just want to chat about sports with my pals or see a cool train picture without having my mental health take a complete nosedive.

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050. Just the start. Common sense.

I was walking down a street in New York and I thought how lovely it was, with the trees and the light. Tried to take a photo and this came out. It’s incredible how blind we become to the ugliness of cars. They really do mess things up. Yet somehow we manage to filter them out.

It's cool that guys making tens of millions are like, "yeah one benefit of signing here is I don't have to give a small amount of money to fund public schools and disability services," and we treat this as shrewd navigating rather than an abomination.

Smart cities know that, as hot as they already are, they’re just going to keep getting hotter. Greening the city not only cools it down, it cleans the air, quiets the noise, improves mental health & happiness, saves public money, & more. Strand Aldwych, London. 2021 vs. 2025. Via

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users. ALL ROAD USERS. And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all. For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them. Via
