A lot of biking in today's edition of #WeekWithoutDriving - walk kids to school - bike to library, hair salon, & co-working space downtown - bike to a group ride checking out new infrastructure - stop for groceries (and sunset) on the bike home My bike gives me flexibility.

Here's a map from Ottawa's Greenfield Residential Land Survey, showing land parcels designated for future development. Most of the land is in the corridor that used to separate Stiittsville and Kanata. It's gradually filling in. (I'm working on a post about this with more info, coming soon.)

Day three of #WeekWithoutDriving. For me, the morning was easy: Green Line straight to downtown, very easy and completely uneventful. For the rest of my family, today is a different story.

Today at committee we're talking about a new Housing Acceleration Plan for Ottawa, aimed at increasing the number of housing starts and lowering the cost to build. Always good to keep the end goal in mind: bringing down the cost of housing (ownership and rental).

"I cycled to school when I was a kid, and we didn't need fancy cycle lanes." Yeah, but there's three times more traffic than there was in 1973.. Twice as many cars as there was in 1982.. ..36% more traffic on urban minor roads than there was in 1994.. ..and cars were *way* smaller, and lighter.

Lots of great pedestrian spaces and school streets in Barcelona, some carved out of the city’s famous diagonal intersections.

Car sharing across Ottawa – Gatineau is coming soon. I was pleased to join Maude Marquis-Bissonette, Mayor of Gatineau, and Councillor Tim Tierney to announce the launch of Communauto’s FLEX carsharing service starting mid-October.

I was the sweeper for this morning's #KidicalMassOttawa bike ride. These two little ones did a super job. So does this ASE Safety Camera. There are 3 elementary schools located on this stretch of 4 lane road. The camera helps keep kids safe NOW & collects funds for more permanent changes. 1/2

Ottawa Police traffic enforcement date: From September 16—24, officers issued 513 tickets, warnings, and Part III summonses across Ottawa, most of which were issued under the Highway Traffic Act.

Ottawa’s busiest photo radar cameras this year have issued fewer tickets than they did last year, suggesting drivers are adapting to the presence of the cameras and slowing down.
