When I hear "drafts," I imagine someone rewriting the same book multiple times. Are these whole new manuscripts of the same book each time, or just iterations with incremental changes and alterations? I write one manuscript and then I move elements around in it until I'm satisfied.

One of the other pieces of proof people are overlooking is Time Spent. You can get an AI to write whole chapters in a few minutes. If it took you 5+ months to write the book (my personal best) I'd say it was probably not done by AI.

I'm a pantser & don't keep "drafts." I'm not even sure what that means. Do you all keep multiple files of the same manuscript? I just keep changing the same file until I'm satisfied. The only "notes" I have are copypastes of Wikipedia entries & 3am scribbles like "UNDER THE TREE??" or "onions??"

i resent and push back against the idea that we should have to show draft work. it was frustrating for visual artists to have to do, and its frustrating for prose artists as well. for a lot of people, the parts of the drafting process they don't already share w editors are pretty personal?
