Nazi-Deutschland hat Europa in Schutt und Asche gelegt. Noch immer ist es ein Wunder, dass die EU auf den Ruinen des 2. Weltkrieges gebaut werden konnte. Es ist für immer Auftrag, dieses Europa weiterzuentwickeln und gegen die zu verteidigen, die es wieder zerstören wollen.

Good point. It’s an approach that’s consistent with Trump’s view that “the European Union was formed to screw the United States”, & Witkoff’s approach to Russia - Europe is the enemy you can’t trust & should extract concessions from, Putin is the much maligned guy you can rely on.

I think what makes this moment feel so big and groundbreaking is that even those among us who have been talking about the need/danger of a Europe without the US for a long time, were usually in the mindset of a US disinterested in Europe. But not a US actively hostile to Europe& European interests.

Nothing could make it clearer that Europe needs to step in NOW and offer Ukraine an alternative. Not more because the US is doing less, but an alternative to US military assistance. Starlinks is another huge problem. And there is no relying on the US for European security anymore. Very bad times.
