I've been reading about European history during the 17th century and it's amazing what a strong Parliament can do to curtail a rogue king.

I have class at the University of Utah today. My 11- yr old asked if I could bring back a toy because when she went to camp at the U last summer, they showed movies in the same building as my class and they gave out toys. 🤣

Rep. @AOC: I understand that Vance believes shooting a young mother of three in the face three times is an acceptable America that he wants to live in, and I do not. That is a fundamental difference between Vance and I. I do not believe that the American people should be assassinated in the street.

As a former advocate for survivors of domestic violence, I cannot describe how much it pains me to hear the Vice President say we owe a debt of gratitude to man who shot a woman in the face and then called her a fucking bitch.

“Even the names of the 4 Ministries by which we are governed exhibit a sort of impudence in their deliberate reversal of the facts. The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture, and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation." -1984

Salem, Massachusetts categorizes their witch shops as "metaphysical supply stores." Coming from a philosophy background, I prefer to imagine that a metaphysical supply store sells a lot of chairs for thinking about Plato's Republic, causality, etc.

I saw an ad for an AI girlfriend while I was watching linear algebra videos. Does anyone else get these? My partner never does and he watches comedy, art, and DIY videos. Does the ad service think people that like linear algebra are the most in need?

you: please act normal you need these people to like you people: hello Ed nice to meet you me: The German practice of leaving cities to circumvent rationing by bartering for food with farmers during WWII was called "Hamstering" and the Nazi propaganda poster against it somehow turned out cute.

If you tell Duolingo that you're depressed, it will cancel your lesson. I was just trying to practice my terms for understanding French songs like "Je fume des clopes dans un blockhaus noir parce que je suis déprimé" (I smoke cigarettes in a dark bunker because I'm depressed).

son brought home a pinto bean plant from school last spring. it yielded one (1) bean, which we planted. *that* plant yielded ... one (1) bean, which we have also planted. Five months of cultivation has yielded two beans. anyway, you were saying something about "grow your own food"

My 11 year old has to write an essay for class about whether the world is better or worse with the internet. She said back before the internet you could only look things up in books, which meant you never learned anything. I guess books can't compete with YouTube.

It is so weird to live next to two houses where at the first house the guy screams all day and it could be at a sports game, his wife, or someone on the phone, and at the second house the woman lovingly talks to her dog about how she missed him while she was at work. The comparison is jarring.
