Update: I got a tow to the shop; shop discovered that whoever changed my oil last month didn't tighten the plug correctly, so all my oil leaked out and may have cause major damage. The dealership where I got the oil change is now talking to the shop guys and have promised to pay for everything. 😐

I think the thing that's radicalized me the most as an American is finding out that people in other countries don't have to file taxes each year. Our government loves to make individual people do the work they're supposed to be doing and then punish us if we don't do their job correctly.

The Research: One way to prevent unauthorized AI use is to require that students use only recent scholarly sources in their research projects. My School: We can't afford access to recent journals. Godspeed.

I've been reviewing the scholarly literature on how to detect AI-generated writing, and what I've found is that the absolute best AI detector is a human who regularly uses AI in the writing process.

I get that everyone hates Microsoft products, but if your company uses them, DON'T put all your work shit on Notebook LM or Google Docs. It's an actual security and privacy problem. If you're an instructional designer or IT guy who tells people to do this, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP IT.

I just think that men should not.
