Technics portable compact disc player (1987)

The DS was an amazing system, has one of the greatest libraries ever. It's biggest strength is it's uniqueness, which sadly makes it pretty hard to emulate. A lot of the games were designed with the 2 screens and touch mechanics in mind.

The DS (and 3DS) family of systems are my favorite handhelds full stop. I was hesitant at first, mostly worried about the battery life with 2 screens. Then @sephex.bsky.social showed me how you could play Castlevania while looking at the map at the same time and I was sold on the spot.

I saved up my own money to buy a DS Lite and Pokemon Pearl from toys r us on a rainy evening. My sister and I passed it back and forth, but eventually our parents rewarded us with a second one as a late birthday present and we could do local multiplayer and pictochat
