WA Bikes seeks ‘presumed liability,’ e-moto clarifications and preserved safe streets funding in 2026 state legislative session + One bill gets hearing Jan 14
The Washington State legislative session starts Monday amid a significant budget crunch and only 60 days to figure it all out. Ahead of the session, Washington Bikes released this short list of priorities: Protect funding for bike infrastructure and statewide youth bike education programs from efforts to divert that money to other uses, like vehicular transportation projects. Advance street safety policies.

Yesterday’s killing of Minneapolis mother Renee Nicole Good proves the dangers of Trump’s campaign of terror via ICE across our country. ICE officers appear to not only be acting with impunity, but the explicit approval and support of the president and his administration.

A severely car-brained man decided to spew some toxic brain exhaust at me and my kid yesterday. Scared my kid a bit, but I just disengaged and ignored him (which made him more mad because I guess he wanted to fight me in front of my kid?). He eventually ran out of mouth froth and drove away.

Watch: Zen out on a New Year’s Eve tour of some of Seattle’s 2025 bike lanes (feat. Gordon Padelford)
SDOT delivered a huge number of bike lane projects in 2025. Many of them were the result of a late push by SDOT to deliver as many projects promised to voters who approved the 2015 Move Seattle Levy as they could. Seattle stopped collecting Move Seattle Levy funds at the end of 2024, creating something of a hard deadline for projects that had been facing delays such as the 15th Ave S and Beacon Ave S bike lanes.

Rode the newly protected Ravenna blvd bike lanes finally. They’re awesome BUT citywide that project would be like #100 on my list lol. They weren’t even that bad before. Also the parts that were really bad (intersections where u r sandwiched btwn left and straight going cars) aren’t better at all 😥

Is there any reasonable way to bike from Auburn or the Interurban to Federal Way Downtown? Something that doesn't involve climbing a hill on a highway with no shoulder. Indirect is fine.

Did you try this cheap transit trick today? Let us know how it went. Taking Lime to transit is cheaper than walking…if you are willing to use a terrible app and park in very specific places.

Sorry, but triumphant claims about autonomous vehicle safety are wildly exaggerated. It's an open question whether today’s self-driving cars are any safer than those driven by humans. And if reducing crashes is the goal, that isn’t even the right question. My deep dive, in Bloomberg 🧵

And even if self-driving technology proves to be less dangerous, there are many better ways to improve traffic safety and prevent fatal crashes.

The Lime + transit hack explained: How to get a Lime ride and 3 transit tickets for $1.66*
Screenshot of my Lime ride summary. The points history from the Transit GO app shows that I earned a total of 1,000 points and used only 600 of them buying two light rail tickets. Yesterday, I took a Lime scooter to U District Station, then took light rail to Mountlake Terrace, then back to the U District several hours later, and it only cost $1.66 total.* I did not cheat or dodge any fares, and I did not use any low-income discount transit programs such as ORCA Lift.

About 200 people are rallying in downtown Seattle to denounce U.S. military strikes on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president Nicolás Maduro. The attacks occurred overnight and were authorized by U.S. President Donald Trump. Organizers called for a new anti-war movement to oppose the attacks.

Legislators need to pronounce this proposal as dead on arrival. The climate crisis is getting worse, and Trump is determined to stop climate action. We need these funds to go to build the infrastructure and services needed to reduce climate pollution - as voters made clear when they approved it.

After pricing overhaul, 20-minute bike and scooter rides now cost the same as transit fare for LimePrime subscribers
Screenshot from the Lime App. Lime's newest pricing scheme makes it far more cost-effective for regular users to use their bikes and scooters for short trips, making the service much more useful as an everyday mode of transportation. The new scheme puts the cost of a 20-minute ride on par with a full-price adult transit single-ride fare of $3 while lowering the cost of rides under 5 minutes to $1.50.
