This captured the dignity and bravery I witness in Portlanders every day. Started tearing up reading it. From kids to elderly people, everyone showed bravery and a discipline to look out for their neighbors that day. I love the people of this city so much.

If City Council does not have an accurate an reliable accounting of funds to make decisions for what services we save and cut, we cannot do our jobs. Council must exercise our oversight powers to prevent this from happening again, and I will strongly support Councilor Green’s oversight resolution.

I was interviewed by KOIN earlier & they posted a small piece. In addition to saying the Feds have no business tear gassing anyone, let alone a very mellow march with kids in it, I spoke about how Trump and ICE are scared of an organized working class & that we won’t stop protecting our neighbors.

Obviously unsettling to learn about even more unaccounted for funds especially during a period of fiscal strain for households and the city alike. This is precisely why I filed a resolution to initiate formal oversight proceedings in December. We’ll take that up on Wednesday.

A lot of people in my profession (environmental law) in Portland (including me) have been trying to get tear gas banned since 2020 after the Portland Police & feds blanketed the entire city with the stuff twice over. You’ll never guess who opposes banning tear gas!

DHS just unloaded a massive amount of teargas on the big labor rally at the PDX ICE facility. Just before this the crowd was chanting "Show us your face!" That turned into cries of "There are children here!"

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.
