I see my Labour MP is reading the room after the EHRC Code of Practice just dropped.

Any answer that isn't "we refer you to the reply given in the case of Arkell v. Pressdram and we'll see you in court" is, in my personal opinion, entirely unacceptable.

There's some welcome bits and pieces in that EHRC guidance, particularly on clubs and associations being able to remain trans-inclusive, but in general it's a mess. Imagine having to make a major financial decision on the basis of the endless, hyper-anxious impenetrable drivel in that document.

This piqued my curiosity in the draft CoP.👇 Are they saying that if a trans person is in a pub/bar, restaurant, or shop, then toilets/changing facilities are secondary to the primary purpose of the pub/bar/shop? So it would be inappropriate to ask what sex they are when they use those facilities?

this is supposed to be practical guidance for businesses to follow and instead it’s hedged to the point of incoherence because the politics behind it (~trans people aren’t real) is not compatible with the legal underpinning for it

Speaking as a Green Party member, I was inclining towards, "let's just stand a paper candidate rather than throwing in actual resources." But if the reports about EHRC guidance are accurate, I'm leaning more to "stuff em, let's go for it."

What is more likely? A woman is harassed by a trans woman in a female toilet or a trans woman is violently assaulted by a man in a gents toilet? If it's about protecting people, which apparently it is, then this is the question they should be asking.

This would be a pointless and vindictive move which would shame those who propose it for the rest of their careers.

I hope the Telegraph has got the story wrong, but I doubt it, to be honest. They clearly have their sources inside the EHRC. If accurate, I'm not sure why I'm supposed to fear a Reform government in 2029. Labour are clearly doing everything Reform want to do. They're just less gleeful about it.

I'm not anti-Burnham, but he chose to leave Parliament, he chose not to run in 2024 & he chose to seek re-election as Mayor. The idea he should jack this in 2 years early, that someone should give up their seat for him & that the PLP should sit on its hands until he's arrived feels rather entitled.
