I like Jimmy Kimmel. I really do. I have no issues with him. I'm talking about something very different. Kimmel was only suspended. But he's back now. Karen Attiah and all the other Black journalists are still fired. Y'all do know how to fight, when you want to. But you don't really want to. 🤷🏿♂️

Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing. These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

Watching Paul Newman and Robert Redford act together is one of the most supreme cinematic delights. I wish they made more (and even better) movies together. What amazing, kind, politically astute dudes.

In the minds of most Americans, we’ve tended to mythologize the Warren Court as most representative of the Supreme Court, when in truth, for most of our history the Court has ruled against minority rights, upheld the power of wealthy white men, and rarely protected the most vulnerable.

Most red states are just violently gerrymandered states. AND — as I’ve said before and will say again — if you genuinely care about liberation, you want liberation for EVERYONE. Freedom is not to be hoarded.

Somehow, we need to learn how to express outrage at authoritarianism and fascism without co-signing the claim that the treatment is okay for black people but not others. Cuz that's what a lot of the anti-military takeover and anti-immigrant deportation stuff ends up saying.

Now is the time to be curious about our universe, to be imaginative about all its possibilities, including the potential for humans to live in good and sustainable relations with each other and the ecosystems that we depend upon. This is a time of stubborn freedom dreaming.

D.C. is a lovely and vibrant city, the unhoused people there just want help, and the people who live in the city have no voting representation in Congress and thus lack one of the major opportunities for anyone to advocate for them.

People acting like pop culture is beneath serious discussion is frustrating to me personally (I love it) and also wrong (it’s one of the most common things to care about, which is why it is shorthand for “popular” culture) and also politically disastrous (politics IS downstream of pop culture)

I think there’s a big difference between “all hope is lost” and “I have lost hope” and in climate it is really important to distinguish between the two. My personal feelings, your personal feelings are not the limits of our collective politics.

Yeah not to get all Buddhist or anything but Buddhism helped me here. Trauma isn’t special. It’s not personal. It just is. If you come out of whatever your trauma is with anything other than that understanding, life will magically provide you another chance.
