We can and should identify and condemn the unholy alliance of transphobia, misogyny, and racism that animates Miller's comments here. But I'm angry we even have to. This shit shouldn't be given a national platform, it shouldn't be tolerated anywhere, we shouldn't have to engage with it at all.

Put differently: We aren't making first- and second-year grad students respectively (i) invest heavily in learning micro and econometric theory, and (ii) becoming familiar with the literature in their chosen fields just for fun. Comparative and absolute advantages are more than theoretical concepts.

This makes me reflect on my own interest in economic science, which is not my field but nonetheless has had a surprisingly large impact on me, especially as it pertains to the debunking of misinformation. 🧵
