Former councilmember Mike OBrien tried to make bike lanes mandatory when streets were being fully reconstructed, but SDOT managed to ignore that order on its very first project after passage, Delridge Way.

This week our planning commission chairperson (and former city mayor Mary Place) boldly expressed her concern that requiring less off-street parking will harm the "tree canopy" because more will park on... the street.

The PNW "Seattle freeze" (a misnomer -- it's not limited to Seattle) is just another flavor of this. Otherizing newcomers is shitty. Only two things are necessary: Love where you live and love its people. If that describes you, then you're a local.

The only real New Yorkers are parked cars.

Anyone who's ever had to say "by Seattle" because it's the only place anyone's heard of in the less famous Washington can stop holding their breath.

Yakima County lands at a modest(?) FCR of 0.09 and the MSA has only a few municipalities to show, so there's no visible enclaves of extreme wealth. Also missing is the Yakama tribal boundary. But the contrasts between places like Toppenish and Zillah are still clearly seen here.
