I get the distinct feeling that there are many people that simply equate "doesn't matter" with sleek, light, naturally flowing design and "does matter" with heavy, clunky, bloated unusable nonsense. If we interpret words by what they actually mean then none of that logically tracks.

Not only is "system doesn't matter" literally an absolute statement, like just in how it's written it's not presenting any ambiguity or leeway, but I'm gonna be honest that I think a lot of the stupidest elfgame "discourse" is people throwing absolutist statements out there as ragebait on purpose

I learned the “right skills” as a GM by, in very large part, how they were inculcated in me by systems. I learned much faster from well-designed systems than from muddling through frustrations with weak ones. We have such technology as shouldn’t require every GM to independently reinvent the wheel.

Ultimately so much of this debate is thoughtless sloganeering, which has even forgotten the fact this was basically spawned from a dumb slapfight between white men on an old ass forum two decades ago. The reality *I* have to deal with now is that, largely, design is simultaneously the least...

I had lots of time today so I went straight on to child's play 2 and the toy factory rebuilt the murder doll (?!?). Clearly they needed to recover the blackbox of this 15.99$ plastic toy to do some research. A technician dies and the CEO cares fuck all, so that tracks though.

I'm watching the first child's play again (made a resolution to rewatch a few horror film series from start to end), and it's hilarious to me how it takes only five minutes to get chucky into that doll. Some other writers/directors would have wasted 45 min or more on exposition and buildup.
