One of the fairest criticisms of Assigned Media has been that we are largely white and do stories by, for, and about white trans people. It's a work in progress, but I've been trying hard to change that in 2025. This story is the most recent result of those efforts.

Trans people are anxiously waiting for the EHRC’s final guidance to be published, following its extreme and unworkable interim guidance. I know many are worried it will further the exclusion of trans people. I've written to govt to say that we MPs must be given time to debate it.

You can go back as far as the Magna Carta if you wish. in UK law, there has never been an explicit statutory restriction on toilet use for Trans+ people, in public or private spaces. What is being proposed would not be a rollback. It would be a new era of exclusion. One we have not seen before.

We need to know. And we need to be able to trust the source on something like this. And Assigned Media can be trusted. We need to know because it will be used to fan the flames of bigotry against our community. And that makes us less safe.

The shooting was absolutely despicable, and the identity of the shooter doesn't make it any more or less so. I want Assigned to be a source of accurate info on these stories when transphobic rumors are dominating the information environment.

I used to be funnier online. I used to do stand up comedy too. It’s strange how offline I’m still this person but online (since I started leading non profit orgs I think) I’ve felt more pressure on my public voice to be more serious. As if being funny somehow made me less credible.
