I took two days off from foot patrol to work on Friday’s events, then spent yesterday doomscrolling despite myself. The first vigil I joined last night was at my usual post over the last few weeks. The grocery store owner gave me a hug; he had set out candles from the store for the vigil.

What we learned after they killed Renee Good is that they don’t stop operations the day they kill someone. It only increases in other parts of the Cities. So we keep patrolling. we can’t even stop to mourn.

I think it says a lot that immigrant owned grocery stores near me are planning to close on 1/23. I talked to the owner of the one I’ve spent the most time at lately & he said he’s going to talk to the other businesses on the street, too.

A lot of good businesses are closing on Friday to participate in the ICE Out General Strike. But make sure to support these places on the other days. A lost Friday is a tough thing for a restaurant or bar. Also use this as a barometer for the types of businesses you want to support.

can we just quickly clear up an often repeated idea that Minneapolis is a “small city of 500k” or the “47th largest city in the US”? it is directly connected to st. paul, a city of 400,000. with the suburbs, the metro area is over 3.5 million people. your city won’t be safer because it is bigger.

One of the MOST significant things about this — and an important lesson to highlight, not obscure, for national/international readers — is how widespread local opposition is. I’ve never seen more normal folks involved. The overwhelming broad consensus local support lifts me up when I let it.

It is WILD how active they are on the east side right now. And - no surprise, just disgust - waiting outside of churches.
