The key thing I note here is that Tony Blair felt quite secure looking millions of people in the eye and telling them to fuck themselves over the Iraq War. Our current leaders feel intensely and intolerably threatened by literally one guy saying theyāre complicit in genocide.

Letting hunger strikers die, arresting Greta Thunberg ā this is not incompetence or even indifference. The UK state is deliberately making examples of people to ramp up the crushing of basic civil liberties and silence opposition to genocide

So, just to confirm, the BBC canāt keep Robin Ince on the air because his trans allyship brings the organisation into disrepute, but they can keep David Walliams, who performed Nazi salutes at the recording of this very show, on the air despite him being predatory towards women. Cool. Very normal.

As ever, there is just no analysis at all of why things happen in politics that cannot be quite fairly summarised as ājust soap operaā: personalities, whoās up, whoās down. There is simply no theory at all from these lads of why this year has been yet another repellent, despicable shitshow.

This is from a BBC article by Kuenssberg - now I know these pieces are meant to be more opinionated, but still. It was studiously neutral on Reform but frames this fight as straightforwardly "Labour leadership wanted to do a good thing but Labour MPs were opposed to doing this good thing". Wild.

But I have never applied for it, even when I have been very poor, because I am terrified of being subjected to this level of surveillance. I preferred to eat cornflakes and keep the heating off.
