Nextdoor posters out there defending the scenic beauty of... parking lots? No, seriously, that's what they're doing. (The "village" in question is Los Altos. Not a village.) It's not just M. A brigade of people are extolling the downtown parking and saying it's Los Altos' neighborhood character.

I think cars are useful but I think municipalities are going to have to start enforcing ordinances on how and where they can be driven. They currently murder more than 40k+ people EVERY YEAR.

As a person who is typically meat in this scenario - someone who walks more often than I drive - I do not want government agencies yelling things at me that I already know. I want them to yell at drivers to slow the fuck down, get off their fucking phones, and stop at fucking crosswalks.

We always knew Caltrans doesn't care if drivers kill pedestrians, but it's a little to on the nose to employ a traffic engineer who drove drunk, killed someone, and then drove away. I guess it's just a matter of wholesale killing versus retail killing, and Caltrans approves of both.

The utility of locking up an 80-year-old who killed an entire family is obvious—it would make some children of 80-year-olds take away car keys from their dangerous parents lest they be next.

The city of Los Altos plans to convert two downtown parking lots into a public park, a real park, with grass and trees and benches. Opponents prefer the scenic beauty of parking lots. Take a stand for public land used (beautifully) to store cars!
