This is important because the success (or failure) of many clinical research efforts is determined by how well the evolutionary trajectory of cancers can be pre-empted, highlighting the need to consider genetic background as a variable in biomedical and translational research. [10/12]

Regardless of genetic background, almost all tumours have a single MAPK driver mutation, resulting in consistent oncogenic perturbation of gene expression. However, there are strain biases for oncogenic mutations, which may be partially accounted for by immune editing. [6/12]
