Last week, researchers identified code in Meta AI's smart glasses app that could convert faces into unique biometric signatures to identify strangers in public. Just as quietly as they embedded this code, the app’s 6/5 update appears to have quietly removed them.

‘Luckily I play with my feet’: Spence talks up World Cup hopes despite broken jaw
England defender getting used to protective brace and hopeful of contributing to Tuchel’s tournament effort In the disorientation of the moment, as Djed Spence lay on the turf, the pain radiating from the left side of his jaw, it was tempting to wonder what flashed through his mind. The Tottenham full-back had been cleaned out by the elbow of Chelsea’s Liam Delap in the closing stages of the penultimate game of the Premier League season. Spence had eyes only for the high ball while Delap looked directly at his opponent before spinning and throwing out his left arm. For starters, there had to be surprise that Delap was not sent off. “Yeah, it was a crazy challenge,” Spence says. What about his involvement in Spurs’ final match of their relegation battle at home against Everton? And beyond that, the World Cup? Did he fear it might be all over for him? Continue reading...

FIFA has now confirmed that Artan will no longer be able to officiate at the World Cup, which like for players, is the biggest moment in the lives of referees. FIFA has said it is nothing to do with them, but a decision made by US authorities and that the decision is not likely to be changed.

Confirmation from US border authorities that Omar Artan was denied entry after arriving because of what are unspecified “vetting concerns” after “processing” required to verify information. And still no comment from FIFA.

A reminder that Infantino said in 2017 that all qualified teams, their fans and officials, need to have access to a host country, otherwise it can't host. There are already numerous (predictable) US visa issues with the World Cup about to kick off and likely more to come.

Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/

this very good thread also made me think of a couple of nasty little media tricks. One is painting somebody as rich because of living in say "500,000 pound house' which a) relies mostly on an older audience not remembering what house prices are b) can be somebody renting or mortgaged to the hilt
