The collected USS Stevens was a dream come true for me. Trying to hunt down the original issues in the wild was tough.

Today is the birthday of artist and writer Sam Glanzman (Dec. 5, 1924-July 12, 2017). A veteran of the Navy, he is most remembered for his work on war comics, which included an autobiographical series about his service aboard the USS Stevens during WWII.

I was honored to edit Sam's late career cololavration with @joerlansdale.bsky.social RED RANGE in 1999 with Mojo (reprinted by It's Alive 2017). I believe this was the final book length work of his storied career. (I know he did a handful of shorter works after but no grpahic novels)
