The email this is sent from uses visa.com as the TLD and it's like...so fucking good it is very scary.

Oh hey I just found this in my email? So they did in fact send me a fake alert for the adding things to my wallet, and they sent this to the email address that I use for my bank account, which is not a trivial thing to do.

My bank has verified it wasn't them, and has asked me to provide the information they did so their fraud prevention services can send people an alert for what to look for. They're also replacing my bank card since this guy knew the last four digits of mine.

The person identified himself as Kenneth Sirry, agent 313509. Just goddamn.

So I said, "I'm going to have to hang up and call the Fraud Prevention service directly. What is your extension?" And the person immediately hung up. I am still on the phone with my bank's actual Fraud Prevention service, but fucking hell.

That was the point where I was like: okay, all of this now adds up to someone trying to scam me and give them my login credentials, because bitch, if you can see my transactions, you can see my login ID.

So it says reply "login-id/cancel" and that is what I did, and at that point, this guy who is still on the phone says, somewhat exasperated, that I have to reply with MY Login-ID.

Anyway, he sent me this, and what the fuck was this even asking me to do? I wasn't sure. Also the temporary user name issued looked like the kind of thing someone who was into L337 speak would choose, not the kind a multinational bank would issue.

At this point, I asked him how I knew he was from my bank, and he said, look, I'm calling from the number listing on your card. (He was.)

So he said he was going to send me a new temporary user name and they would cancel my other one, and here's where they fucked up: the instructions were extremely confusing

And he was like "it's a biometrics issue, do you know what biometrics are" and I was like "how did they even set up biometric access to my account without me getting an alert that a new device was accessing" and he said "you probably got the alert but weren't paying attention" and, fair, I do that.

He said that to fix it, they were going to have to shut down my old online access and issue me a new one. And I was like...uh, why do you have to do that? Can't you just revoke the clearance?

He told me that someone had added my card to their Samsung Wallet and made it a trusted device so that they had no way to shut it down. I was like "how did they do that?" and he was like, oh, probably some kind of password skimmer, were you on a public wifi at some point? At some point? Probably?

It was for a transaction from Delta Airlines for $700, and no, it wasn't me, so I replied that it wasn't me, and then shortly got a call from a well-mannered man saying he was a fraud prevention specialist.

I think I just barely escaped a shockingly savvy scammer trying to get my bank credentials. First, whoever it was had my actual phone number, my actual bank, and the last 4 digits of my account. They sent a "was this transaction you" message that looked almost identical to the ones my bank sends.
