The wedding of Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel. A true story: Dave Cockrum was so proud of this spread he asked for the original artwork back. Carmine Infantino said NO and Dave quit DC in protest. Afterwards Dave used the designs he had planned for the Legion to create the New X-Men with Len Wein.

Ben Oda was a Japanese-American man who was drafted into WWII and deployed to France before returning to America and being hired by Jack Kirby to letter comics. I have no idea if Urasawa based Kevin on him, but it felt fitting to base Kevin's lettering on his.

Billy Bat spans decades and shows comics within the comic. The very first page in Japanese actually uses Blambot fonts. But those weren't around in 1949, so we used period-appropriate fonts and hand lettering.

empty streets, grainy clouds, snowfall against the twin towers. Early 3D games have preserved New York City in a surreal way — polygons coalesce into a fuzzy nostalgia for a place that no longer exists. It’s cold out there.

Yes, great conservative art is obviously possible. Hell, great fascist art is possible—Pound, yes, but also Griffith or Vikernes, both of whom are plainly good at art even as they make monstrous things. What’s impossible is great, or even good anti-intellectual art. Art must be interested in art.

Which artists and visions are these, Matt? The whole problem is that you people do not have artistic and creative visions. You are mean, talentless, tedious, philistine dullards, pretty much by definition. Hence, you have no artistic success. It's not that you just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I think there are at least two powerful themes that conservative writers handle really well - the grief that comes with change and the struggle to preserve the good against the tide of humans’ worse natures. Modern conservatism is all-in on humans’ worse natures and thinks grief is for losers
