1000 or so+ (at least) National Weather Service/NOAA employees took early retirement today alone with more likely. NWS offices in many cases were already understaffed and services are being cut. Mark this day. So many implications.... 27000 collective years of experience...Gone

From NWS SPC: ⚠️❗️A Particularly Dangerous Situation Tornado Watch is now in effect for much of Mississippi and northern Louisiana until 6 pm CDT! Numerous tornadoes, as well as strong/long-track tornadoes are likely, along with very large hail and damaging winds greater than 70 mph.

More proof that my colleagues at NWS SPC are the best in the business. Their service is no less than vital.

Another example of the outstanding work of the folks at the NWS Storm Prediction Center! The initial risk area was denoted on the Day 6 Severe Weather Outlook with continued messaging of a significant severe weather threat up to the event day *Note: Reports are preliminary (likely more to come)

Folks need to be on extraordinarily high alert across far SE LA and most of MS from midday thru Sat PM. This is as bad as it gets.l tornado-watch-wise.

EPA warning: do not go outside in the Central U.S. dust storm! Hazardous dust covers parts of OK, MO, IL, TX, IA, AR. On Fri, St. Louis AQI peaked at 3,372 from PM10 (dust); on Sat morning it was 556. AQI over 300 is “Hazardous”, over 500 is off-scale. Consult airnow.gov.
