NWS Norman issued 5 Tornado Warnings this morning (January 8, 2026) - the most they’ve ever issued in the month of January This was the first time since 2020 (and third time overall) that they issued Tornado Warnings in the month of January (records back to 1986) #okwx

In 2025, March 4 was the date of the first occurrence of tornadoes in Oklahoma for the year Pending ongoing damage surveys, it’s likely that the first occurrence of tornadoes in Oklahoma for 2026 will be January 8 Severe weather season runs from January 1-December 31

Yesterday (January 3, 2026), NWS Eureka issued their first Tornado Warning in 8,419 days December 14, 2002 was the last time the office issued a Tornado Warning Based on available data back to 1986, these are the only two Tornado Warnings ever issued by NWS Eureka

The first tornado of 2026 goes to… Arizona! A landspout occurred yesterday afternoon near Three Points just west of Tucson

NWS Norman led the way with 1,159 severe thunderstorm warnings issued in 2025 (more than double the next closest office - NWS Midland/Odessa) and 184 tornado warnings issued in 2025 (next closest offices were NWS Memphis and NWS Paducah)
