April 10, 2011: Fifteen tornadoes struck Wisconsin. At the time, this event was the state's largest single-day outbreak on record. Four tornadoes were significant (EF2+), the strongest of which was a devastating EF3 that ripped through Merrill. 2 people were injured.

April 10th, 1979: The infamous Terrible Tuesday outbreak struck Oklahoma and Texas. Several cyclic supercells produced significant tornadoes that ravaged the Red River Valley. Two of the tornadoes attained F4 intensity. 57 people were killed, and over 1900 were injured. 1/2

April 9th, 1953: A long-track F3 (likely a tornado family) tracked 156 miles from Champaign, Illinois, to the north of Muncie, Indiana. Three people were killed and 22 were injured. The tornado is notable for having one of the first hook echo scanned by radar.

April 8th, 1999: A substantial outbreak of 47 tornadoes impacted the Midwest and Central Plains. Twelve tornadoes were significant (F2+). A pair of massive and long-track F4s destroyed farmsteads southwest of Des Moines, Iowa. Two people were killed.

April 7th, 1926: Lightning sparked a disastrous oil fire in San Luis Obispo, California, burning more than 6 million barrels of oil. The fire spawned whirlwinds with one vortex traveling one mile to the east-northeast of the blaze, destroying a small farmhouse and killing two people.

April 6th, 1936: The fifth-deadliest tornado in American history made a direct hit on Gainesville, Georgia. A massive section of the downtown area was destroyed, unlike in Tupelo the previous day when only residential areas were impacted. 203 fatalities were confirmed.

April 5th, 1929: An outbreak of ≥7 tornadoes impacted IA, MN, and Wisconsin. Three were estimated F4s, and some of the tracks were likely tornado families. Dozens of farmsteads, homes, and other structures were destroyed. Schoolhouse No. 21 in Brooklyn Center was damaged. 15 people were killed.

April 5th, 1925: An estimated F3 carved a 12-mile path through Dade County in southeast Florida. The estimated F3 damaged/destroyed a dairy farm, a restaurant, and about 50 homes. Five people were killed and 35 were injured. This event remains as Miami's worst tornado.

April 4th, 1966: A pair of what were almost undoubtably tornado families trekked across the Florida Peninsula. The most intense of the two was an F4 (one of only 2 violent tornadoes in Florida's history). Several hundred homes were destroyed and 11 people were killed.

April 3rd, 1964: KAUZ in Wichita Falls, Texas, broadcast the first live television pictures of an F5 tornado moving through the city. Seven people were killed, 111 were injured, and 225 homes were destroyed during the twisters 5 to a 6-mile path. 1/2

April 2nd, 1982: A massive outbreak of 56 tornadoes struck numerous states, from Texas to Illinois. The event marked the first use of a high-risk outlook, and the first PDS (particularly dangerous situation) watch. Paris, Texas, was devastated by an F4. 30 people were killed & over 350 were injured.

April 2-3, 2025: A massive outbreak of over 90 tornadoes struck the Central and Southern US. 29 tornadoes were significant (EF2+), four of which were rated EF3. Substantial damage occurred at Lake City, Arkansas, and Selmer, Tennessee. Eight people were killed.

April 2nd, 2006: An outbreak of 67 tornadoes affected parts of the Central and Southern US. In the Midwest, a derecho produced widespread damaging wind. To the south, multiple high-end F3s struck towns in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. 27 people were killed, and nearly 350 were injured.

April 2nd, 1936: An outbreak of (at least) eight tornadoes impacted Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Three were estimated F4s. Cordele, GA, and Greensboro, NC, were devastated. 47 people were killed and over 700 were injured.

In addition to it being the warmest March in the U.S. and by far the warmest in the southwestern U.S., it was exceptionally dry where the core of the warmth was centered. Large areas saw their driest March on record (red colors). 🌵

April 1st, 1873: The RMS Atlantic sank with the loss of around 562 lives, after striking rocks in Nova Scotia, the worst disaster in maritime history at the time.

March 31- April 1, 2023: One of the largest recorded tornado outbreaks impacted parts of the Central, Southern, and Eastern United States. 147 tornadoes were confirmed, an astounding 44 of which were significant (EF2+). Twenty-six people were killed, and 225 were injured.

March 30th, 1897: A violent tornado devastated Chandler, Oklahoma. The 1/2-mile-wide tornado was reported to be a multivortex. Every structure in Chandler was damaged, and some were completely swept away. After the tornado, many fires broke out. ≥14 people were killed.

March 30th, 1949: Four nighttime significant tornadoes impacted northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas. A violent F4 tornado ripped through Canton, Oklahoma, and surrounding farms. To the northeast, an F3 struck Enid and Blackwell. Four people were killed and 40 were injured.

March 29th, 1979: An F4 tornado passed directly through Braddyville, Iowa, destroying most of the town. According to tornado researcher Thomas Grazulis, only nine of the 92 homes and businesses in town were undamaged. Twenty people were injured, but no fatalities were reported.

March 28th, 1920: A massive Palm Sunday outbreak struck the Midwest & Southeast US. At least 31 significant (F2+) tornadoes were documented, 8 of which were F4s. The furthest-west violent tornado devastated parts of the Chicago metro. At least 153 people were killed.

March 27, 1994: A devastating tornado outbreak struck the Southeast. 28 tornadoes were confirmed, the most notable of which was an F4 that tragically killed 20 parishioners and injured 92 when it destroyed the Goshen United Methodist Church near Piedmont, Alabama.

March 26-27th, 1931: A blizzard struck western Kansas and adjoining states was called the “worst since January 1888”. Twenty children, ages seven to fourteen, were stranded in a makeshift school bus for 33 hours during this blizzard.

March 27th, 1890: An extremely deadly outbreak of at least 24 tornadoes struck the Ohio & Mississippi River Valleys. Six were violent F4s, the worst of which destroyed hundreds of buildings in Louisville, Kentucky. At least 146 people were killed, and >800 were injured.

March 26-27th, 1948: An outbreak of at least ten tornadoes impacted the Midwest and Southeast. The strongest tornado of the event was an estimated F4 that damaged or destroyed about 80% of structures in Coatesville, Indiana. 23 people were killed, and 278 were injured.

March 26-27th, 1976: An outbreak of nineteen tornadoes struck several states from Texas to Illinois. Officially, eleven were significant (F2+). An F5 (disputed rating) produced substantial damage in Spiro, OK. Talihina, OK, was hit by an F4. Four people were killed.

To my surprise, this evening I discovered that the Monopoli tornado from last Summer is well visible on Google Earth! This includes damaged greenhouses, broken tree limbs, debris scattered in fields and apparently some very minor ground scouring

March 24-25th, 2023: A major tornado outbreak impacted the Southern US. The strongest tornado of the event was a high-end EF4 that devastated Rolling Fork, Mississippi. To the northeast, intense EF3s struck Winona and Amory. 23 people were killed and 226 were injured.

March 23rd, 2007: An outbreak of 18 tornadoes impacted Texas, New Mexico, and the Oklahoma panhandle. An EF2 became the first tornado to cause fatalities in New Mexico since 1974 when it slammed Clovis, damaging/destroying over 500 structures. Two people were killed.

March 23rd, 1917: An outbreak of ≥9 tornadoes impacted Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The strongest tornado of the event was a devastating F4 that ripped through the north side of New Albany, IN. Around 300 homes were destroyed. 47 people were killed.

March 21-22nd, 2022: Over three dozen tornadoes impacted Oklahoma and Texas. Nine tornadoes were significant (EF2+). A long-track EF3 ripped through Jacksboro, Texas. Major damage also occurred near Round Rock and Crockett. Two people were killed and 66 were injured.

March 21-22nd, 1991: (TA) An outbreak of 20 tornadoes affected Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri. Five tornadoes were significant (F2+), the strongest of which was an F3 that ripped through Ada, Oklahoma, simultaneously with an F1. Twenty-three people were injured.

March 19th, 2018: An outbreak of 19 tornadoes impacted the Southeast US, five of which were significant (EF2+). This event included the year's first EF3, which damaged or destroyed numerous structures in and around Jacksonville, Alabama. Six people were injured.
